Monsoon combines the gracefull lines of a modern "Philip Rhodes-style" motorsailer with the rugged and sure proven seaworthiness of the most able offshore cruiser. Monsoon is a roomy, seaworthy and seakindly vessel, designed and equiped for living aboard and extensive cruising in comfort and safety. Apart from the 5 cabins,there are the 3 separate living areas (aft deck seating - pilothouse - salon) which can accomodate lots of personsal individual space, which is nice in a live aboard situation with a bigger group or family. Space and headroom are essential on a live aboard yacht. Yes, she is a big boat but you sail her like a 40 footer, The sails are not enormous and the furlers work fine. The autopilot steers the vessel almost allways. And one man dropsor lifts the anchors in the bay.

Imagine:
You are on the Monsoon with a group of 8, under sail for a full day passage from a to b. Two are in the shady pilothouse, on socalled watch, reading a book or playing dominoes, relaxing in the U-sofa. Autopilot, radar with alarm, gps and chartplotter are ON.
Two others are in the salon, mam is cooking and one so called help is watching the video, which they made yesterday of climbing the sand dunes. Two more sailers, one is sunbathing on the aft deck, the other one is trying to catch a fish trawling lines. Nr.7 is sitting on the bow pulpitt, checking out for dolphins. Number eight is the far away individualistic solo-sailor, below in his cabin reading a book, MP-3 player ON!
OK, Here we are talking about a lot of PERSONAL SPACE on an affordable and easy to handle sailing yacht.

Dimensions of the vessel: 72' x 18,1' x 8'
HULL info click. She has a sharp bow and a canoe stern. She is round bilged, has a wineglass shape hull with full keel with cutaway forefoot, medium/heavy displacement loaded approx 70 tons, 1/4 inch mild steel hull, alloy superstructure and 2008 new burma teak decks. Built in New Zealand in 1978 by Kumeu engineering & P. Vos (Interieur) - she is a one off, custombuilt oceancruiser designed by mr. Don Brooke from Auckland NZ.
All keel compartements got cleaned and serviced in 1999 and the old ballast got replaced by 10 tons of new lead.

Monsoon is ketch rigged,click for more info and her mainsail and mizzen sail have the famous NZ Leisure furler. The two headsails are all on Reckmann furlers.
Monsoon can be sailed by one couple, and if neccessary by one person alone. Present cap does sail the boat alone every now and than. Major help comes from the SIMRAD AP50 autopilot.

2 separate battery banks, chargers/inverter etc etc.
There are no 50 Hz versus 60 Hz problems.

Single Detroit Diesel 6-71,click for info 185HP/Alison gearbox with reduction 3:1. This solid mechanical installation has a Danish Hundested variable pitch 3 bladed bronze propellor with 3 ft diameter, a propsystem which is considered to be simply the best. Monsoon, when cruising at 8 knts/1500 rpm, she'll be comsuming 5 gallons of dieselfuel per hour. Monsoon carries 1800 gallons fuel in 2 tanks. So the range under power alone is 3000 n.m. Engine and Hundested completely rebuilt in 2005.

The alloy deckhouse galley/salon raises 4 ft above deck offers seating for 8 persons around the dinnertable and gives a perfect panoramic view over the sea. All cabins, companionways, salon galley and pilothouse have a headroom of 6'and 6". The delightful semi-enclosed alloy pilothouse standing on deck level, offers seating around a big table for 8 persons with shadow, fresh air, permanent view over all shipsystem controls and protection against the sea. Aftdeck halfround / fullwidth sternseating fitts aswell 8 persons. Lots of sunbathing spaces all around, enormous 2008 new burma teak deckings.
5 spacious cabins for 13 passengers/crew will give the travellers/sailors the feeling of being at home on board of Monsoon. (two head/showers). Aft there is AirConditioning and also plenty of natural ventilation. During a daycruise Monsoon could give 20-25 persons pleasure and enjoyment with her good sailperformance and spacious accomodations. In the bay, gently riding on her anchors, she will be the great mothership and will supply pleasure with stereo/ video and library, with toys like windsurfer, dive and fishing gear and dinghy for waterskieing, and last but not least with a galley like at home.
Tankage: 200 gall drinking water \ 300 gallons black water. 18 gallon/hour Watermaker.
